100 Greatest Movies (AFI) Meme

Carrie did this, and I HAD to do it too, I watched this the other night, and enjoyed the countdown a lot! If you want to do it too, you just bold the ones you have seen :)

I left Carrie's comments on some and then put mine in (parentheses) :)

1 Citizen Kane (1941)
2 The Godfather (1972) LOVE IT.
3 Casablanca (1942) Eh.
4 Raging Bull (1980)
5 Singin’ in the Rain (1952) Only about 100 times. (Me too Carrie, one of my all-time faves :) )
6 Gone With the Wind (1939) One of my faves. I liked the ending much better than the one in the book.
7 Lawrence of Arabia (1962)
8 Schindler’s List (1993) Good movie.
9 Vertigo (1958) I am not that fond of Hitchcock, honestly. This is one example of why! Too creepy for me... :-p
10 The Wizard of Oz (1939) I used to look for this one in the tv guide all the time, so I could watch it over and over :)
11 City Lights (1931)
12 The Searchers (1956) One of the only John Wayne movies I have not seen!
13 Star Wars (1977) Well, duh. Does anyone really not like it? :-p
14 Psycho (1960) Yuck. Only could watch part of it.
15 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968) LOVE IT! Me and my dad and brother watched it a lot when I was growing up.
16 Sunset Blvd. (1950)
17 The Graduate (1967) Only saw parts, I didn't really like it.

19 On the Waterfront (1954)
20 It’s a Wonderful Life (1946) Every year at Christmas (, and sometimes in between. Love it.)

22 Some Like It Hot (1959) Very funny, but I still can’t believe Marilyn Monroe got away with wearing that dress in the ’50s! (I KNOW! I agree with Carrie on this one too.)
23 The Grapes of Wrath (1940) It was good, watched it in school!
24 E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial (1982) This was, of course, one of my faves growing up :)
25 To Kill a Mockingbird (1962) Gregory Peck is the perfect Atticus Finch. (I agree, and also, this was a wonderful adaptation of the book, imo, which is not always the case with movies, as we all know!)
26 Mr. Smith Goes to Washington (1939)
27 High Noon (1952) Eh. It was ok...
28 All About Eve (1950) I can't really remember much about it either, but I think I did like it! :)
29 Double Indemnity (1944)
30 Apocalypse Now (1979)
31 The Maltese Falcon (1941)

33 One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest (1975) Yuck.

36 The Bridge on the River Kwai (1957) GREAT movie. Me and my dad have watched this together prolly 20 times :)

41 King Kong (1933) I watched this over and over growing up, it was one of those movies that I would see in the tv guide thingie and make plans to watch!

50 The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (2001) Good stuff. (Oh yes, it is indeed! I adore the books, I adore the movies. LOVE Elijah Wood as Frodo.)
51 West Side Story (1961) The first time I watched it I loved it, then when I grew up and watched it again I thought it was pretty cheesy :-p
52 Taxi Driver (1976)
53 The Deer Hunter (1978) Soso.. didn't really leave much of an impression on me...
54 M*A*S*H (1970) Liked the TV show better. (ME TOO, but the movie was pretty funny :))
55 North by Northwest (1959) Cary Grant. Mmmmm. (I agree with Carrie AGAIN ;) )
56 Jaws (1975) UGH.
57 Rocky (1976) I am a huge Rocky fan. I love them all. And we just watched Rocky Balboa, and guess what? I BAWLED. From beginning to end. I literally cried for two hours. I know. I am such a sap. But I love and adore Rocky. And it broke my heart, the beginning, and the end made me cry cuz I was happy for him! :)

62 American Graffiti (1973) It was ok. I watched it after many years of watching Happy Days. It just wasn't as good as Happy Days!!

65 The African Queen (1951) I only remember bits of this one as well..I don't think I ever watched it watched it..
66 The Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981) Anyone else looking forward to Indy 4? (YES YES YES! Are they MAKING one?!?! I watched all of these movies OVER AND OVER AND OVER! LOL)
67 Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? (1966) I’ve never been a big Elizabeth Taylor fan. (Yea, me either... I didn't like the book, and liked the movie even less. *shrug*)
68 Unforgiven (1992) GREAT movie. Clint's comeback, imo :)
69 Tootsie (1982) I just did not think it was that great...
70 A Clockwork Orange (1971)
71 Saving Private Ryan (1998) Will NEVER EVER watch this.
72 The Shawshank Redemption (1994) I loved this movie. So strange that it is based on a short story by Stephen King. (That is strange. Never knew that. This was one of my faves as a teen. Maybe I am weird ;) )
73 Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid (1969) Paul Newman and Robert Redford. ‘Nough said. (HAHA! Yes. This is another one me and my dad enjoyed watching over and over together :) )
74 The Silence of the Lambs (1991) I get shivers just thinking about it. (YES, me too, and I will never ever watch this again. GROSS.)
75 In the Heat of the Night (1967) It was pretty good.
76 Forrest Gump (1994) LOVE THIS! STILL!

86 Platoon (1986) OMGoodness. Could not watch it again, prolly.
87 12 Angry Men (1957) Very good movie. Kevin caught some of it once when I was watching it on AMC or TCM, and he was like "What do you see in this stuff?" LOL
88 Bringing Up Baby (1938) One of the best comedies ever. (I totally agree. FABULOUS characters!!)
89 The Sixth Sense (1999) I only saw part.

92 Goodfellas (1990) Kevin really likes mob movies. Sometimes I worry about him. ;) (Hey, don't worry too much, I adore mob movies! Did you see The Departed? Not as good as this one, but pretty good all the same :) )

94 Pulp Fiction (1994) I liked it, but I don't think I'd ever watch it again. Just the language. Man.

100 Ben-Hur (1959) I only thought it was ok, but it made me want to read the book, which I haven't ever done yet.

You know, honestly, I prolly watched a lot more of these movies. I did not get to see the whole countdown show, but I bet if I had, it would have jogged my memory about some of the others. Like Yankee Doodle Dandy. I think I did watch it, but I cannot remember if it is the same show I am thinking about! And there are others on there as well that I thinkI may have seen, but just do not know for sure.

I mean, I used to keep the tv on TCM or AMC all day long, every day when I was pregnant with at least a couple of my kids! I watched movie after movie! :)
